FAQs

How long is each session?

Therapy sessions last between 50-55 minutes.

How long will I be in therapy?

Every person is different so the length of time in therapy depends on therapy goals, available time, finances, and insurance benefits. Mental health therapy is similar to physical therapy. In both, you work to heal injuries, strengthen muscles, and learn new ways of moving. Many times clients will return to therapy if and when needed.

What are your areas of expertise and training?

As a therapist, I enjoy working with a range of life experiences and challenges. In recent years, my work has increasingly focused on adults who have experienced trauma, as well as adults with ADHD and individuals navigating grief and loss.

In addition to my graduate degree, I have completed advanced trauma training, along with training in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS). As part of my licensure, I participate in ongoing continuing education to deepen my clinical skills and stay current in the field.

How do I know if my insurance covers therapy?

Insurance plans vary in their coverage of mental health services. I suggest checking the following:

  • Do I have mental health benefits?

  • What is my out-of-network deductible, and have I met it?

  • What percentage of the session fee will be reimbursed?

  • What is the allowed amount for outpatient psychotherapy (CPT code 90837 or 90834)?

  • Is there a limit to the number of sessions covered per year?

  • Do I need pre-authorization for out-of-network therapy?

  • How do I submit claims for reimbursement, and is a superbill accepted?

Where are you licensed to work?

I am licensed in the District of Columbia, Virginia, and Maryland.

Have you been in therapy?

Absolutely! Therapists are no different than their clients and benefit just as much!
